Planning - Storyboard - Miss Begum

Storyboard:

Storyboards are invaluable when several people are working on a project together. A well-defined storyboard helps to ensure that everyone understands the goals of the project and how the video and audio footage should work together. However, if you're working alone, they also serve as visual reminders during the filming and editing stages. Remember, storyboards are not set in stone and can be revised as needed.

Research: Typography - Mr Smith

Typography

Typography is a way of arranging and presenting text through the size, design and colour to the audience. The typography give the audience an idea indication of what the film is about. It is essential information that connect with the audience so they know more about the production.

Examples
For the film 'Black Swan' the title of the film is shown in white with a black background, this makes the title over take the black background  against the dark images around the title, the title is shown written like the swan, this allows the audience to understand straight that this is a psychological thriller as the title plays with the audience sights. the colour white  has  connotation of 'purity' however it could also been used purposely to confuse the audience  and change their expectations of the film so that they can be shocked  and surprise while watching the actual film.

This picture of the typography of the opening scene of "seven"

This is a picture of the typography of the opening scene of the film 'Scream'. At the start of the film the writing is white and simple until it starts flicking red and it finally turns red. The colour red connote danger, blood and anger this turns the sets mood of the film - the atmosphere  be calming for the audience until there is a disturbance which makes it completely change.

Research: Opening credits - Mr Smith

Opening credits
Opening credits are shown at the beginning of a film. They show the most important members of the production for example the director, major actors and main crew members.

Purpose of film credits
The purpose of film credits can be used for advertising (production company); giving credit to those who took part and it outlines major actors/ crew members. In the opening credits the audience expect to see the names of the important major actors within the film/ crew members who played a major role. This is done as it influences the audience to watch the film, e.g. the female sex may be attracted to a film starring tom cruise.

Information that credits provide
The opening credits tell the audience who the major actors/ crew members are for example the soundtrack creator, director or producer(s) involved in making the film. Furthermore opening credits may be their to honour people that may have died during the production of the film.

How do they make the audience feel?
Opening credits are effective in films as they are usually followed by a soundtrack which automatically helps to build up tension among the audience before the film even starts. Images are often used in opening credits to make the audience ask questions about their relevance.

lighting used in the opening are:
Low key lighting
Flashing lights
Montages.

Appearances:
Actors
Victims(pictures)
Organised crime
Successful ( can tell by the victims presented on the screen)
Changes from extreme to less extreme (Needles through finger-Needle through paper)
Soundtrack
close up
Montage

In the opening credits of se7en they use dark lighting and colour is used throughout the opening credits low key lighting is used to make the audience feel on edge an uncomfortable throughout the opening also the colour red is used throughout the opening by the use of red filters and red blood splatter on the book pages in the opening this is used to show that the film will have lots of blood and gore throughout and also helps to give a uneasy feeling for the audience at the begging of the film. This conventional to thrillers because the goal of a thriller is to create an uneasy scary atmosphere for the audience

The opening credits of 'Se7en ' the names of the actors/ actresses come up to show the audience who had a role in this film. However, by showing the names it makes the audience more into the film because they would be looking forward of who is the antagonist, victim or protagonist. Most films are watched because particular actresses/ actor have a role in a film. Once the audience know who has a role in the film they would start to figure out the story line in they're head.

Low -key lighting and dark colours are used throughout the opening credits. The low key lighting makes the opening appear mysterious and disturbing when it is mixed  with the dark colours  and images  shown constantly. The colour red is used frequently throughout the credits which may represent danger, death, these elements within the credits  are conventional to a thriller  film  because  a sense of suspense and tension is created  throughout the audience.

Conclusion:
In my thriller movie I want to build tension and catch the audiences attention straight by the opening credits because this will build tension and would want the audience watch the movie. I will be using dark colours and blood because it catches the audiences attention and it makes them feel disturbing right in the begging of the film.

Planning: final idea - Mr Smith

Final idea
Genre: Thriller

Sub-genres: Horror, crime and action.

Characters: victim:  Ruth
                     Protagonist: Amani

Tittle: That One Night

Amani walks in the hut while his walking he sees blood drops on the floor this makes Amani walk faster just to see what happens because his sisters at home alone and he panics. When amarni runs through the long balcony he realises that his front door is wide open. Amani stops at and slows down because his in such a shock that who would go into his house and do such a thing like that. Amarni shouts his sisters name out and there's no response from his sister. Amani takes slow footsteps into his house. He realises someone's on the floor the first thing he sees is a hand. He runs towards the hand and stops and slowly looks at this sisters wondering what has happened to her. He is In such a shock that he is wondering why someone would kill his sister. Amani's sister is covered in blood. Amarni steps back sits on the flor and wraps him self in a ball wondering why this has happened to him. The camera blacks out and amarnis in a black room and is processed all he can see is his sister looking at him and she has blood all other her. Amanis trying to reach out to his sister but she keeps fading away. Amanis getting weaker and weaker. Amani starts to fight him self. his sister whispers 'why I was your sister' respectively. Then the camera switches back to Amani being at home with a knife covered in blood with his sister on the floor dead. Furthermore, our antagonist will be wearing bright clothes at the beginning but towards then end he will have dirt on his clothes to show that he is the antagonist and he isn't innocent like he was in the beginning. However, in the first 10 minutes the antagonist will have a clear face without no make up After 10 minutes he will have blood on his face because he will be hugging a dead body with disturbing cuts on it. Therefore, our victim will be wearing bring clothes with blood all over her because she has been killed in a very disturbing way. She will have n make up on her face to show that she is innocent because her face is clean with her hair tied up in a pony tail. When Amani starts to walk up the stairs we will use back lighting and we will have his shadow appearing on the ground because he will have a hidden identity. However, we will have top lighting so the audience can see the dead body and know whats going on in the movie. We will have only a few iconography; lens to show the audience that our antagonist is processed and a knife to show the audience who killed the female victim. In the beginning of the movie the audience will hear Amani breathing once he sees the blood on the floor which is a on screen sound. We will also have Amani speaking to him self once he sees his front door s open.
As a whole group we got influenced by sycho when the female victim is getting killed we decided to make a scene like that. Therefore we also got influenced by identity when the audience wasn't able to figure out who the missing identity was.As a group we want the audience to be shocked when they find out that the antagonist killed they're own sister. We want the audience to have so many questions in they're mind for example; why did he kill is own sister? why didnt he know whats going on? how did he become processed? why did it end with a cliff hanger?

However, in our story board we have included a protagonist. We have changed our idea and took the antagonist out and we have twisted the roles and idea so the video can finish with a cliff hanger.

Planning: initial ideas - Miss Begum

My idea: crime thriller
A lady sleep walks to her daughters room and kills her daughter by biting her neck. When the lady walks back to her room he starts to have nightmares of her daughter. When she wakes up she realises that her nightmares have happened while she was sleeping. She walks to her daughters room and doesn't see no sign of her daughter no blood or anything. The lady starts to hear things such as " you killed your own daughter" the people around her thought she had gone mental and took her to a mental hospital. No one believed her which made her committee suicide and die.

Amani's idea: Action thriller
boy on the path to success with a good education is led on the path to destruction after his brother is killed by a gang. He takes revenge on the gang members by killing each member but the further he goes the deeper into darkness he gets and the more he finds information out about his brother.

Asli's idea: Crime thriller
Starts off with seeing the school class rooms. One of the employees of the school are watching the CCTV cameras everyday for normal daily security. The employee starts to realise something weird is happening in the classrooms at school. Then cuts are starting to be made in the CCTV footage. The employee goes around the school and into the classrooms he/she realises blood on the walls and the tables have been moved around Into weird places. Meanwhile after 7 days everyone has realised that 7 students have been gone missing and it must have been planned because it will done professionally.

Gizem's idea crime thriller
A women has murders her 2 daughters because we partner cheated on her. The women starts to have flashbacks and starts to act weird which came to a solution that she has gone crazy due to her husband cheating on her and her killing her children for her husband. The women has been taken away to the mental hospital and she has killed her doctors while being checked up.
