preliminary task - Mr Smith

What is the purpose of the preliminary task:
The purpose of the preliminary  task is to learn how to operate and use a camera. While we was filming we all contributed and played around with different camera techniques including the angles, shot sizes, and shot movements. The preliminary task gave my whole group and idea of what we should be doing in our final video and it gave us  more knowledge within how to use the camera.

The scenario:

After the filming of the 30 second filming we had to edit the shots by using ' Final cut pro' program. This allowed us to experience how to use the new editing techniques. The main editor was me in this task but the task was shared by other members of the group to help me and make group agreements on what looks better. This task enabled me to develop her editing skills before the actual thriller scene task. This means that we will save time in the future when editing.

This task has been essential in creating our thriller because of a number of reasons. I'm now aware of the major difficulties that we might face when carrying out the filming and editing process for our thriller opening. I was able to use different angles and sizes when using the camera. I think that all of the things that we have done in this task allowed me to have a clear understanding of what I could use. Based on this task we were able to see if the locations of the thriller production is suitable.

Group roles: During the preliminary task our group had separate roles. For example I was the director and I was also helping out with the camera operator. Asli was videoing the whole scenes. Amarni and Gizem were the actors. However, we all contributed with the editing. My whole group contributed with the paper work.

Difficulties while filming: When we first got our camera we found it difficult to attach the camera  to the tripod. Once we started filming we had to change the area we was filming  because so many people were walking past and we found it difficult to video with so many people walking past and making noises.

Difficulties while editing: While we was editing we found it difficult to upload our videos because  the editing system didn't accept our video which made our pace slower and took us longer to edit our video.

What have I learnt: During the preliminary task I developed my knowledge about how i should be using the camera while filming. I have  also learnt how to bring the shots alive and how to act like an actual director.

Conclusion: The preliminary task helped my whole group  develop they're knowledge about filming, how to use a camera properly and how to bring the shots alive. The preliminary task Furthermore, taking part in the preliminary task has helped me to develop and train my skills of directing and filming a production and also editing to make the clips understandable and effective with in an audience.

  1. This is a better post and shows what happens when you use the titles given to you in class in your post!

    To improve:
    - Get the video in there
    - Screen shots of different techniques used
    - Explain scenario and who took on which responsibility
